WHAT WE DO

What are Healthy Start Services?

Any mom can have a condition that would put her baby at risk for being born too soon or too small. When you answer a few questions on the Healthy Start Risk Screen at your first prenatal visit and at the hospital when your baby is born, you give your baby a better chance at a healthy start. When you say yes to Healthy Start, services can be provided to you in the comfort of your own home, at the Healthy Start program office in your county, or at another place of your choosing. You may qualify for services from Healthy Start no matter what your income level is. Participation is voluntary and you can stop services whenever you want. Services may include:

  • Home or office visits
  • Breastfeeding education & support
  • Childbirth education
  • Parenting education & support
  • Nutritional guidance
  • Info on choosing childcare
  • Birth control info
  • Help to quit smoking
  • Transportation info
  • Linkage to community resources
  • Family Planning
  • Edinburgh
  • IPV and RAT

Fetal and Infant Mortality Review

Chipola Healthy Start also has a program that conducts research into the circumstances surrounding events of infants dying or being born too early. This requires an interview by one of our professional staff members. The information is used to teach other pregnant women or women wanting to become pregnant of risks associated with pregnancy and infant sleeping patterns. We understand that sometimes there are no answers to why these sad events happen. However, if you will share your information we can gather enough knowledge and you can possibly help someone else not have the same experience as you have had to face.

If you would like to help us and others, please call (850) 482-1236 or 1-866-591-2852 for a time for an interview. You may also call either number and we can set up a time for grief counseling if you need it anytime during the next year.
